love 101

love 101

the curriculum of the heart

some questions arrive like echoes...
soft, but undeniable.
they don’t land with urgency,
they land with a kind of quiet gravity.
like they know they belong in the room.
like they’ve been waiting to be asked,
and you’ve been waiting to hear them.

i was asked one of those questions:

it started as a conversation,
but it opened something deeper.
a mirror...
-memories...
a quiet unfolding that doesn't arrive all at once.

i’ve asked myself that same question every day since it entered my space-
not out of confusion,
but because each time i come back to it, it reveals something new.

love has taught me to be present. to cherish moments.

it has taught me patience. pain. joy. freedom. control. self-awareness. peace. grace. gratitude. appreciation. heartbreak. flow. change. how to navigate. how to pivot...

love has taught me what i don’t like. love has taught me what i love. love has taught me the beauty and power of silence. it has taught me compassion-

love has taught me introspection. to think outside of the box. insecurities. privilege. security. jealousy. desire. hard work. alignment.

love has taught me loss. wonder. interest. inspiration. competition. aspiration. fullness. fulfillment. confidence.

it has taught consistency. consideration. contentment. how to share. satisfaction. sacrifice. sadness. understanding. pace. respect. resilience. responsibility. betrayal. forgiveness. how to pray... how to listen...

love has taught me passion. discipline... and disciplines... it has taught me art, literature, fashion... fear. how to face fear.

love has taught me by far more good than bad.

love has stretched me, shaped me, softened and strengthened me.
it has been a curriculum of contradictions...
one made of ache, awe, and arrival.

my answer to the question began with three words and a smile:

“wow… that’s loaded.”

because it is.

love didn’t come with a syllabus-
but somehow, it has taught me everything...

some questions open more than conversation—
they open memory.
they open meaning.
thank you, ejh, for asking the kind that became a companion, and not just a moment.
what has love taught you?

until the next thought,

– nik
